First Battle of the Books lunch meetings were held today in Mrs. Nix's room! Battle of the Books is a nearly year-long team competition. Students read 11 books and compete in a trivia tournament about the books at the end of the year.

Meet Nick, one of our students of the month! "My name is Nick Alvarado. After school, I participate in Student Council and science club. My best subject is math. I always get a good grade in that class. I want other students to know that I always stay positive! My hero is Chris Chain. He’s a YouTuber, and he’s always positive. He made me want to start skateboarding. My favorite activities to do outside of school are skateboarding and playing soccer. My goal for the year is to have straight As. When I leave school, I want to be a soccer player or a graphic designer."
Meet Cindy, one of our students of the month! "My name is Cindy Xiong. After school, I participate in Bulldog Beats and Creativity Club. My best subject is pre-algebra. It is fun, and I learn a lot of new things. I play the piano and the alto saxophone. My heroes are my parents and the teachers at my school. Outside of school, my favorite things to do are drawing, painting, reading, listening to music, and singing. This school year, I want to get good grades. After school, I want to go to college and become a doctor."
Ms. Roland's ELA class did a breakout today! They were trying to free their Elf on the Shelf, Winter. 2 out of the 3 classes managed to break out in time.
Students in Mrs. Nix's class blog daily in Seesaw on a differently weekly topic. This week's topic is, "If you could have any fictional character as a friend, who would you choose and why?
Social studies students learned about the election process and voted on presidential candidates. As a school, we elected Hillary Clinton for president! Our Student Council made a mannequin challenge video today! Students in Mrs. Smith's ELA class created Venn diagrams about articles they were reading. ELA students are learning about call numbers and where to find books in the library from Ms. Inverarity.
